Qualifying Yourself For A Job Using Japanese — 4 Comments

  1. Off topic but I’m curious, when you went into for a speaking interview and they asked you if you had a girlfriend, what was your response to that? Also, what’s the purpose of them asking such a personal question?

    • I answered yes.

Not sure, but a few possibilities:

      1. They want to see if you are a stable person liked by others (not sure if having a girlfriend actually proves this though)
      2. They want to see if you are willing to do a ridiculous amount of overtime (maybe with a girlfriend you are less likely to do so)
      3. They are just trying to make friendly talk to get an idea of how it would be like to work with you.

In conclusion, I have no idea why!

  2. Hello Adam,

I have been thinking of trying to break into Japanese document review or find a job which requires Japanese but I don’t think I am quite there yet in terms of ability. I’m amazed that you were able to get to the point where you are without spending years in Japan. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

    • There’s nothing really particular you need to get a job like this using Japanese except making your Japanese high enough level (and having whatever non-Japanese qualifications that are required). If you can prove that your level is good enough, then you have a chance. Just keep expanding your knowledge (especially in whatever field you want that Japanese job in). The best way to do this is to read an extensive amount of Japanese books on whatever field of work you’re dealing with.
