5 Japanese Phrases To Properly Wake Yourself Up With
As soon as you get up, you want some Japanese. You’ve had an entire night without any Japanese (unless you had a lucky Japanese dream), and want your day to start off right. You just woke up. What could you possibly say? おはようございます (good morning)?
And who the hell says good morning to themselves when they wake up? Let’s look at what people really mumble to themselves when they start their day.
Ahh, I have to go work again…

I think I’ve heard あと五分 (five more minutes!) in anime frequently, though I can’t think of any particular examples at the moment.

On the subject of mornings, since my alarm clock is also my phone turning off the alarm puts me within a couple of taps of anki, so lately I’ve been starting my days with a sentence rep or two. Starts the day off on the right 足.
I’m more of a あと二時間！
Though it never ends up happening…
I hear this every single morning … from the person who sleeps next to me. Quite often I get to hear it more than once per morning too!
もう７時か・・・ was used on a recent episode of 宇宙兄弟 (Space Brothers). But a more upbeat wake-up phrase was used by the Jamaican on this show. The first thing he said upon waking was 朝ダンス!
And that’s how I plan on waking up from now on!
