Chop – Hilarious Moments to Study Japanese With
Tired of watching the same old “introduction to Japanese” videos where a pleasantly attractive man or woman in their 30s teaches you how to say the same boring expressions you’ve seen a thousand times elsewhere? Yeah…? Then チョップ (Chop!)
Chop is a Youtube & Instagram channel I came across recently, where their videos try to teach typical daily Japanese you need to know. Wait, let me rephrase that: they create 20-40 second ridiculous skits, that are so silly that you can’t help but remember the Japanese. I hate forced Japanese video lessons. This is the exact opposite. They are just having fun, and that fun translates into scenes you can’t get out of your head, ever.
To go with each of their 143 (and growing) videos, they have vocabulary lists and explanations that turn each of these crazy moments into a learning experience.
To get you started, here are some of my favorites so far.
5. 締め切り (Deadline)
4. 幸運 (Luck)
3. 薬 (Medicine)
2. 扇風機 (Fan)
1. 強烈 (Intense)

Short videos with memorable moments. This is how your memory works best, and I think they are doing some great work.

I’ve had a look through the videos and their website and I think this might be one of the most useful resources I’ve seen in a while. The vocabulary may be ridiculous at times but absolutely practical, not to mention fun!
Thank you for posting this!
Ridiculous vocabulary always makes for good studying :)
Ahahaha, I just spend an hour or so watching different clips of them. Not sure how much it has helped my Japanese, but I find the clips hilarious.
Thanks for the recommendation!
It’ll help your Japanese. I promise…
This is awesome, will make sure to binge watch soon haha. The humor kinda reminded me of Dogen’s videos (he’s not japanese but all his videos are in japanese and they are comedic twists of real life japan situations)
