  1. 吾輩は笑い猫である。
    I hadn’t heard of it until now, but it actually comes up as a spelling suggestion when I start typing it!… Talk about well known.

    • 吾輩は猫である。名前はまだない。
      It appears everywhere in media too, from anime and music, to other books and articles.

      • Indeed! Hopefully no one will object if I link to another excerpt from “スケッチブック ~full color’s~” but I think this is where I first heard of the novel:

        Another fun thing to do is to search for variations of the title with other animals to see how people riff on it. I was surprised by how many pages there are with 吾輩はタコである!

  2. I have seen this phrase foe the first time in Tae Kim’s grammar guide. And didn’t understand what the hell it meant. Just forced myself to absorb it. Thank you so much for clearing it up!
